A Simple Guide to Home Internet Problems and Solutions

If you’re like me and use a mobile network to get internet for your home, you probably have a 5g modem with ethernet port. These are small boxes that let you connect to the internet using a SIM card, just like your phone.

I’ve tried many routers, like the Huawei B315 and B535, and TP-Link MR-150 and MR200. I also used some older ones whose names I can’t even remember. Sadly, they all gave me trouble.

The Issues with 5G Routers

These routers often had problems staying connected to the cell tower. Sometimes, the internet would stop working for no reason. Other times, the DNS settings would cause issues. I even tried to use a TP-Link Archer MR200 with my TP-Link Deco mesh system, but it didn’t work well. It didn’t have a good bridging mode and wasn’t reliable. Plus, the Archer MR200 was too expensive for what it offered.

The Cost Problem

These 5G modems used to cost over 100 euros, which was the price of a decent Android phone back then. Now that 5G is here, 5G routers are cheaper, but new 5G routers cost around 600 to 800 euros! I’m worried these expensive devices might also have reliability problems.

A Simple Observation

While all these routers gave me trouble, I noticed something interesting: my mobile phone always has a strong and steady internet connection. When I need a reliable connection for work, I often connect my computer to my phone using a USB cable. This way, I can make sure my internet won’t stop suddenly while I’m working.

This shows that sometimes, your phone might be the best option for a stable internet connection at home, especially if routers don’t work well for you.
